Pathfinder Lander

The Mars Pathfinder Lander weighed 551 lbs, it had a lot of tools and instruments such as a APXS Deployment Mechanism which is a locator so the rover won't get lost. It also has tools to do tests on Mars, like magnets to measure magnetic properties.  The Pathfinder was last heard from September 27th, 1997, it lasted 3 times longer then expected. The Pathfinder was only designed to last from about a week to about a month, but it ended up lasting 3 months. In all the Pathfinder took 16,500 pictures. It was eventually named the Carl Sagan Memorial Station after the 20th-century American astronomer.

Sojourner Rover

The Mars Sojourner Rover weighed only 23 lbs, it moved at slow 0.4 m/min. The Rover could carry a 1.5 kg load/rock.  The rover covered more than 330 feet on the Mars surface, it took 550 pictures, and it never went out more than 40 feet from the lander. The Sojourners first job was to analyze the rock "barnacle boy", it also analyzed other rocks such as "yogi", "scoobydoo", "conglomerate", and others.  It was named Sojourner in honour of the 19th-century African American civil rights advocate Sojourner Truth.

About Mars

Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and the second smallest planet in the Solar System after Mercury. Mars is believed to get its name from the Roman god of war, and is often referred to as the “Red Planet”. The latter refers to the effect of the iron oxide prevalent on Mars' surface, which gives it a reddish appearance which is different from the astronomical bodies visible to the naked eye. Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere, Mars also has surface features similar to the impact craters of the Moon and valleys, deserts, and polar ice caps of Earth.
